Food Baskets, known in Brazil as a “Cesta Básica” are a very sought after item by the poor. These packages are made up of the basic food items needed by each family. Unfortunately, prices are always going up, making it difficult to afford.
Through the donations of others, we have been blessed to be able to provide many of these food baskets to hungry people over the past years. This has opened the doors for many to hear the Gospel and see Jesus Christ in action through his servants. Our goal is to “feed His sheep” not only spiritually, but physically as well. With the donations received for Hunger Relief, we purchase items used in the traditional food baskets at wholesale grocery warehouses. Then, back at A.M.O.’s Main Campus, our volunteers separate and pack up each basket to be delivered to families in the favelas.
Each Food Basket that we distribute costs approximately $40 dollars and generally contains the following*:
2 bags of rice (5 kilos each)
3 bags of beans (1 kilo each)
2 cans of cooking oil (900 ml)
1 bag of salt (1 kilo)
4 cans of corn (140 grams)
2 bags of sugar (1 kilo each)
3 bags of coffee (500 grams)
3 cans of tomato paste (140 grams each)
4 bags of noodles (500 grams each)
12 boxes of milk (1 liter each)
*Items may vary depending on availability and the recipient’s current needs.
Recently, God has blessed A.M.O. with an Agriculture program that provides fresh fruits and vegetables on A.M.O.’s headquarters property. These fresh fruits and vegetables are given to families in the favelas year-round and they are always excited to see what the garden will produce next!
